After the “Thirty Glorious years” (les Trente Glorieuses), France is now in the throes of thirty pitiful years, since it has failed to adapt to the new reality that is the result of globalization and the aftermath of the cold war. And yet, it is overflowing with assets. In order to put an end to this paradox, Nicolas Baverez appeals for the reestablishment of the rule of law, the creation of wealth and of jobs, and the revival of European integration. His motto: neither recovery nor decline is a foregone conclusion.
